National Strawberry Day!

Hi all!  I was checking out Doll Diaries, and I saw that today is National Strawberry Day!  As if I need an excuse to eat strawberries.  :^)   I celebrated with a bowl of the juicy red fruit and whipped cream (it's so my fave snack).
What's your favorite snack?
and
Are you celebrating National Strawberry Day?
P.S.  On a side note, I just wanted to clarify that our last name is NOT Saltys!  It's Edwards.  Elizabeth and I don't mind being called "the Saltys" but we just wanted to make sure you all knew.

Outfit Design, Part Two

Hello, lovely readers!  Late yesterday afternoon, I started sewing my coat and Chrissa's outfit.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take any pictures of the making of Chrissa's tunic, but here are some in-processes pictures of sewing the cape ...
 ... pinning the pattern I made ...
... sewing the back and front together ...
... cutting excess string off the hood ...
... sewing the hood on the cape ...
... and last but not least, pinning (which took quite a long time) and sewing the black lining on.
Here, Chrissa's drawing compared to the result.  Do you think I matched it well?
She already had a blue belt, I just made the tunic and leggings.

Again, the product compared to the drawing.

So, that's the finish of our outfit design.
Do you sew?

Outfit Design, Part One...

Hi all!  This cloudy afternoon, Elizabeth and I decided to draw the kind of outfit we would like to make with the fabric we bought. (http://thesaltysadollblog.blogspot.com/2014/02/to-joanns.html)
So, my sister and I got out our pens and crayons, and started sketching!
"What do you think you're going to use that blue zebra fabric for?" Elizabeth asked.
"Well, maybe a tunic of some sort ... with a belt ..." I replied vaguely, concentrating on my paper and coloring it in.
"What are you using your fabric for?" I inquired back.
"A gray coat."
 Here's my finished picture ...
... and here's Elizabeth's.  Now that we know what we want to create, Elizabeth is ready to start sewing (because I don't know how)!  For the sewing and finished results, stay tuned for part two...

To Joann's!

Hello, lovely readers!  After lunch, Mother, Chrissa and I went shopping.  We all walked inside the massive Joann's store.
Naturally, I headed straight for the fabric section, because I had a new pattern to sew.
"Hmm," I murmured, pulling one gray fabric after another.  "Too dark, too thin, ... ah, this will do perfectly!"
"Isn't this fabric beautiful?" I asked my sister.  "Chrissa?"
Turning around, I saw that she wasn't listening.
"EEEEEE!  Tropical colors!!"  My sister nearly shouted.
"Mom, could you make me a shirt out of this?!"  She questioned, showing my mother a extremely neon bright bolt of fabric.
"Er, I don't think so.  Let's look for something else."
 "How about this?"
"Honestly, dear.  You know the answer."
"This one?"
"I don't think so."
"Okay, what about this one?"
"$16 a yard!  It's too expensive."  Finally, they agreed on a nice, blue, zebra print.
The fabric was cut, so we headed to the floral section of the store.
Do you like my hair?  I had kept the heart braid in for a while, but I wanted something different.  Chrissa suggested that I fishtail the remaining hair, so I did!
Chrissa posed in front of the flowers.  Mother chose some daisies, and we continued.
On our way to the cheek out, Chrissa spotted Duck Dynasty gear, which made her "happy, happy, happy".
After paying for our purchases, we drove home.
I love going to Joann's, so I can sew more with new fabric!
Where's your favorite place to shop?

The New Outfits from American Girl: What We Think (Two)

Hi all!  American Girl has revealed new outfits, so it's time for Elizabeth and I to do a review!
You see, last time we did a post like this, (click here) it was one of our most popular posts, so Chrissa and I decided to do this every time American Girl releases new outfits.
Basically, a new series!  Okay, we'll start off with the historical outfits:
When I saw this, my first thought was "My cousin Kit would never wear this."  =)
I do like the dress, but not enough to buy the whole $64 set.
Interesting.
This is a nice set over all, but not exactly practical.
If I lived in Seattle or something, this raincoat would be very useful, but here in Florida I wouldn't wear it much.
This isn't really my style.

All the color is lovely, but, again, not really something I would wear.
I love how bright and colorful this is!  Pink, blue, green and yellow are a cute combination.
I would consider this an ensemble that is in the middle- I don't like it, but I don't dislike it.
What Elizabeth said.

EEEEEEEEEE!!!!! I LOVE THIS DRESS!!!!!!!!!!!  I WISH IS WAS HANGING IN MY CLOSET RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!
I don't love it as much as Chrissa does, of all the new outfits, it is my favorite.
That's what we think.  What about you?

(All opinions are our own.  We are in no way afflicted with American Girl.)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hello, lovely readers!  I hope you are enjoying your Valentine's Day.
Today started out with Mother making her delicious almond poppy seed bread, baked in a heart-shaped pan.  It was very good.  Chrissa and I told her that there wasn't a better way to start the day.
How are you celebrating Valentine's Day?

Ready for Valentine's Day!

Hi all!  This afternoon, Elizabeth and I decorated our kitchen for Valentine's Day!
First, I spread a dark pink cloth across the table.
Candy hearts and silver "X"s and "O"s made the perfect centerpiece.
While I had been adorning the table with pink and little hearts, Elizabeth frosted heart-shaped cookies that she had made earlier.
I hung up a "Happy Valentine's Day" Banner.
"O-o, that looks yummy." I commented, ...
... looking at the cookies my sister made.
"Thank you." She replied.
What do you think?
On a side note, I braided Nellie's hair to look like Anna's (from the Disney movie Frozen).  I LOVE FROZEN!  It is defiantly my new favorite movie.
How do you decorate for Valentine's day?
